About Sankari

Sankari is a distinguished Bharatanatyam exponent, choreographer, and educator, and the Founder and Artistic Director of Sankari School of Arts. Renowned for her disciplined yet expressive approach, she is deeply committed to preserving the classical tradition of Bharatanatyam while fostering creativity and innovation within the art form. She is an active performer, maintaining regular practice and stage presence alongside her teaching. She is also a regular ballet practitioner, which enhances her understanding of movement, alignment, and grace.
 
Sankari received her foundational Bharatanatyam training from various esteemed gurus in India. She holds Senior Diplomas in Bharatanatyam and Kathak from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, and the ISTD Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) and Licentiate Diploma, being among the first candidates in the UK to receive the DDE in Bharatanatyam with highest distinction. She is also a certified yoga teacher, integrating mindfulness and holistic practices into her teaching.
 
Since moving to the UK in 2016, Sankari has performed extensively across the country and internationally, including in India, Bangladesh, Botswana, and Rwanda (Kigali), at prestigious venues such as the Nehru Centre, London. In 2024, she presented her solo production Anantakam at the Bhavan, receiving highly positive feedback from audiences and critics.
 
Sankari began teaching in the UK in 2017, inspiring students with her technical precision, artistic sensitivity, and holistic approach, guiding them to develop confidence, stage presence, and a deep appreciation for classical arts.

Founded in August 2023 by Sankari, Sankari School of Arts is a leading institution dedicated to excellence in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music, yoga, and meditation. The school provides a holistic and structured learning environment, nurturing technical mastery, artistic expression, and personal growth for students of all ages and abilities.
 
With branches in Croydon, Harrow, Harlow, and Edgware, and teaching at SMA Dance School in Southend, the school is committed to fostering discipline, creativity, and cultural awareness, guiding students to achieve their full potential as performers and individuals. The school also offers online lessons, making its programs accessible to students internationally.
 
The school organizes annual showcases, giving students the opportunity to perform on stage, build confidence, and refine stagecraft. It hosts yearly workshops led by highly experienced teachers across dance, yoga, music, and other art forms, providing exposure to professional insights and diverse artistic perspectives. Students are encouraged and prepared to participate in various competitions, including ISTD-organized events and UUKMA, developing technical skills, performance experience, and artistic growth, with many achieving Kalamela-winning performances.
